Every year as Christmas and New Year approach, newspaper carry predictable reports on possible snow in tourist towns. But alas, that is not to happen. Drastic change in climate patters is a reality today and we have to live with it, or rather adjust ourselves to the new reality. Highlighting this aspect of ecological shift, on Christmas, Doordarshan Kendra Shimla will telecast a special 30 minutes film, ‘For Whom The Jingle Bells Toll?” at 7.30 pm (Friday, Dec 25). The film has been directed by National award-winning film maker Vivek Mohan. It revolves around seeking answer to a simple question, “will it be a white X-Mass or not?”, in larger perspective.

This film was also donated to Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal last year for the Himachal government to spread the message in educational institutions. The Mumbai-based filmmaker belongs to Shimla and was awarded National Award for his first film ‘Malana’ in year 1999.

The film has traveled to various national and international film festivals. The June 2003 premiere at Mumbai was attended by Noble Laureate Dr. RK Pachauri, Director of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and film personality Anupam Kher, along with other invitees.

  1. on a recent visit to HP, i tried asking people if they knew about a film maker (national award winner)  who's been making films about HP – NO ONE knew. pathetic. showing it on tv is good but while i was there, i didn't see anyone watching DD.

  2. Thanx VT for the 'reaearch'…i know! That's the transitory nature of life. Also HP is not a film aware/conscious culture, that's why more such efforts are needed…1 day we shall overcomr to 'wake-up-siddus' . I can gurantee parts of India where people have not even heard of Big B. Message should spread not the messanger.
