HIMACHALIS NOW have something to cheer about. A new website ‘himvani.com’ has come out with an aim to join all Himachalis throughout the world.

The website has over 400 members registered with it has come up with an intention to influence the government’s policies in Himachal Pradesh. The visionary of the site, Surendra Dhaleita, said solutions along with the problems are highlighted by the grassroots journalists on the website.

The four-month-old website has around 10,000 unique page views till now and it has reached out to many people who want information on Himachal. Dhaleita was here to have a direct interface with people at the three-day trade fair ‘Utsav-2006’.

“The website’s first impact has been the e-mail written to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to give a suggestion for checking unhygienic conditions at the dhabas alongside Kalka-Shimla highway. The site received a reply from the CM office assuring action on the suggestion,” he added.

Around 80 write ups have already been contributed by people from different walks of life, including students, journalists, IT professionals, engineers and writers spread all over the world. The group plans to take the IT revolution to the rural Himachal after three years, Dhaleita summed up.

A perfect story-teller, who is madly in love with the hills. Shimla is his first love, and probably the last too. Won't get tired reading Rudyard Kipling. Hopes to pick up poetry again soon.
