15th edition of Raid de Himalayas from 3rd October 2014

    The most challenging and exciting motor sport championship is all set to begin the adventure from 3rd October to 11th October. Raid-De-Himayala will be covering 2000 kilometers in six days by passing through some of the most beautiful and toughest terrains of Himalayas like Rotang Pass, Losar, Kaza, Dhamkar, Darcha, Keylong and Leh.

    Raid has been ranked as the top ten toughest rallies in the world and also one of the three International motor sport event organized in the country that has been listed on the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the rally raid calendars.

    The 16th edition of Maruti Suzuki international motor sport event will have Suresh Rana eight times winner of Raid participating in the Adventure trail that follows Time-Speed-Distance format to test both man and machine. In the Adventure trail each participant is given a speed chart in the beginning of rally and one is supposed to maintain the average speed given throughout the rally. Participants from each category are given a road book with all the instructions in lieu of time, distance and directions that enables the navigator and co driver to keep a constant check on the figures and directions in the road book.

    “The race is a real championship battle that poses a difficult challenge for all the participants as it travels through Khardung La and Wari La, which are the highest motorable passes in the world. Unlike events from other years this car championship will have three major categories of Adventure Trail, Two Wheeler Extreme and Four Wheeler Extreme to compete. The main attraction of the year will be Bollywood Actor and Director Sohail Khan in the Adventure category that will also have fifty-four other participants, two-wheeler extreme will have fifty participants, five women and seven members of the Indian army both in extreme and adventure and four wheeler extreme will have 40 participants” as confirmed by Sanjay Kumar an official of Raid-De-Himalaya.

    “This year 150 teams will be participating in Raid-de-Himalaya and it is one of the toughest races that makes you feel the rush of excitement as you keep traveling to high altitudes. Even today there are some people who do not believe that this race is a real event but this championship poses a tough challenge for the driver and navigator as each one has to a make a way by following the correct rules and routes. The tourism through such events in the state can be maximized when more and more people from other countries come forward to participate that will not only encourage visitation but also increase regional awareness across the State” says Nidhi Bhardwaj winner of the 14th edition of Raid-De-Himalaya.

    With each passing year there has not been good increase in the number of females participates on the racing tracks as they believe that such championship events are full of risk and danger but infact more and more girls should come forward to learn and participate in rally racing.
