School buildings submerges in flash-floods in Shimla district

Two buildings of government middle school Chiyard under Theog sub-division of Shimla district got submerged in flash-floods after heavy rainfall on the upstreams last night, an official confirmed.

Sub-divisional officer cum magistrate Theog, Mr. M.K. Bhardwaj told media that heavy rain lashed tourists resort Kufri and Gullu last night triggering flash-floods in the down streams. Two building and a ground of GMS Chiyard situated beside a rivulet and joining link road of area were submerged in flash-floods.

Administration ordered to shift classes (sixth to eighth) to be run in nearby primary school as school ground and most of the rooms of school got flooded by the muck. The Public Works Department have been ordered to evacuate school rooms and ground.

The report said that school building is safe but rain water washed down the retaining wall of one building making foundation and pillar naked.

No loss of life has been occurred in the mishap but link road to village became unfit for use. However, vehicular traffic is open on the Hindustan Tibet National Highway.

Concerned Tehsildar who visted the spot today accessed the situation caused by flash floods in the area. Vehicular traffic is open on the Hindustan Tibet National Highway.
