Kangra Arts Promotion Society (KAPS) is an NGO working for the revival of arts of the greater Kangra region which comprises the current district of Kangra and surrounding areas.

One of the important achievements of KAPS is the Chitera School of Kangra paintings that was started in 2007. The school was previously located in temporary facilities made available by the Department of Language and Culture first at the Kangra Museum at Dharamshala and then at the Chamunda Temple.

But now a new premises is made available to the artists and the learners at Dharamshala. The new premises was inaugurated by the deputy commissioner Kangra, Mr. C. Paulrasu on 14th December, 2013.

The premises will facilitate the people with an opportunity to learn this art. Monu Kumar, an artist says, “As the colors used in painting are made with natural colors from stones and plants on acid-free paper prepared in a special way, the painting in itself becomes unique”.

Mr. C.Paulrasu appreciated the efforts put in bringing this up. He said that people should avail this opportunity which is now at their doorstep.
