Dharamsala: In a major development that could catapult the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium to international fame earlier than expected, IPL (Indian Premier League) commissioner Lalit Modi on Saturday announced that the hill town would host two IPL matches during the second edition of the tournament in April 2009.

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association is said to have promised IPL officials to provide floodlights for the tournament within a month. Surprisingly, Dharamsala did not figure in the list of 15 cities that were announced as possible IPL venues. Though the stadium has been appreciated by experts, poor connectivity and lodging infrastructure have discouraged BCCI from allotting international matches to Dharamsala.
