The rising wholesale and retail rates of onions has become a matter of worry for the consumers. Prices have risen sharply due to rise in demand and decline in supply.

A spokesman of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said today that Department had given directions to all the District Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Controllers and Sub Divisional Officers (Civil) Pangi, Bharmour, Kaza and Dodra Kwar to conduct regular inspections of the shops situated in open market in order to check the rising prices of onion. He also directed to take strict action against the black marketers, profiteers and hoarders, if found any, under the law.

He appealed to the consumers to contact the inspectors and District Controller of the department if any shopkeeper attempts to indulge in such practices.
