Heavy rain was experienced around Shimla which affected the normal life, as maize crop dashed to ground and affected power supply in number of villages this afternoon. Meanwhile, southwest monsoon remained dormant in rest of the state.
Rain showers along with low speed winds dashed down the growing maize crop to the ground around Shimla airport yesterday afternoon. The inclement weather also uprooted power lines in several villages plunging in to darkness.
Power supply at Jubbarhatti, Dawanti, Kalon and Shadyana villages remained disrupted for many hours which was later restored at some places.
President of Gram Panchayat Kahayal Ram Swaroop said, “Heavy rainfall along with light velocity winds caused heavy loss to the farmers as maize crops were almost damaged in large number of villages around airport in many fields”. He also demanded the district administration Shimla and Solan to access the loss caused by rainfall.
Manali got 13 mm rainfall, followed by Kasauli which recorded 12 mm, Bhuntar in Kullu district 10 mm, Seobagh 6 mm, Theog in Shimla district and Saluni in Chamba district 4 mm each. Shimla just had 0.4 mm rain.
Maximum temperature of Shimla and Manali was recorded as 21 degrees Celsius each, Sundernagar in Mandi district 7.8 degrees, Bhuntar 28 degrees, Kalpa in Kinnaur district 22.6 degrees, Dharamshala in Kangra district 26.6 degrees, Una 32 degrees, Solan 27 degrees, Nahan in Sirmaur district 7.3 degrees.
The Met office forecast rain at many places in the middle hills, few places in the plains and high reaches in next 24 hours.
