8 die and 17 injured in private bus mishap in Sirmour district

Eight people killed and 17 others were injured in private bus accident which occurred at Bharari area of Sangrah subdivision in Sirmour district this morning.

Superintendent of Police Sumedha Dwivedi told that a private bus carrying 35 villagers from Punardhar of Sirmour district to Solan town who have hardly covered 5 km from the starting place met with an accident, when their bus fell down in 500 meters deep gorge as it went uncontrollable. The accident took place at 0700 hours this morning at Bharari, in interiors of Sirmaur district.

She said that four persons died on the spot and others succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

Block Medical officer N.K. Bhardwaj told that 17 injured were rushed to Noradhar hospital and most of them were referred to Rajgarh health center and Solan Zonal hospital.

Rescue teams were rushed from Sangrah and retrieved the bodies from the bus wreckage. Official sources said that the death toll could be higher.

Sirmaur is one of remotest places in the state and scarcity and low frequency of passenger buses in the district leads to overcrowding of vehicles. This is the second road accident in the area in last three days. Four persons were killed in car accident near Bogdhar recently.
