Seminar organised by Center for Woman Studies and Development on the occasion of International Women Day

“Gender Agenda, Gaining Momentum” was the theme of seminar organised on the occasion of International Women Day in Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. It was organised by the Center for Women Studies and Development.

University Dean of Studies, Prof. Suresh Kumar emphasized the need for welfare of women on top priority, giving more teeth to fight out the evils existing in the society, as he inaugurated a day long program. Director of the Center, Prof. Mamta Mokta welcomed the delegates and the participants in this seminar and presented blue prints about the points to be discussed during the seminar.

Stressing the need to strengthen and implement the schemes more aggressively, Mr. Kumar said that despite, lots of welfare schemes and programmes have been run to uplift the women, no satisfactory outcome has been observed. He said that the society has a bigger role to play and share the responsibility to help in building a strong environment and atmosphere for upliftment of women. He underlines the need of implementing existing laws and rules meant for the protection of women in full letter and spirit without any bias.

Prof. P.K. Ahluwalia said that women power is the most precious and important part of our democracy and we must empower them in dealing with the alarming social issues and atrocities against them.

Present among other were Dean of Students Welfare Prof. Mohan Jharta, Chief Warden Prof. Shyam Lal Kaushal, Chairpersons, Directors, Prof. P.N. Gautam, Prof. Pankaj K. Singh, Sh. Susheel Tanwar, President Ashadeep and representatives of NGO’s.
