Newly elected Congress government revoked the land lease of yoga guru Baba Ramdev in the state.
A government official told that cabinet at its meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, took decision to cancel the allotment of 28 acres of land in Solan district to Baba Ramdev for setting up a herbal garden and Patanjali Yogpeeth’s branch.
He said the land, valued around Rs. 35-40 crore, was allotted by the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in 2010 on a 99-year lease at a token amount of just Rs.1 by violating land norms. The prime piece of land is located at mid-way between Kandaghat town and the hill resort of Chail, 50 km from Shimla.
The Congress, while in opposition, is demanding cancellation of the lease given to the yoga guru of the land, which was donated by former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s family to the government in 1956 for setting up the Indira Holiday Home for Children.
State in-charge of the Bharat Swabhiman Trust, an outfit headed by Baba Ramdev, Laxmi Dutt Sharma told that the yoga guru is reaching Patanjali Yogpeeth’s Himachal branch on February 27 to inaugurate its first phase built at the cost Rs.7.5 crore.
Baba Ram Dev trust decided to go ahead despite strong signal by incumbent government to reconsider the lease deed stating that it was sanctioned during BJP rule for paltry price of Rs. 1 rupee per month.
Whoever the party running the government, they should respect the decision of the previous party running the government. If not then it is clear the party is not FOR the welfare of the state but for its own name, work, reputation and conflict with other party.
Present Govt. dcision is politicaly motivated . Ultimately public of Himachal (by way of employment and other jobs) and farmers were going to get advantage of this unit
New government setting distructive trend
I think its a decision of the people of himachal who have elected this government and its doing it on their behalf. I think we should not donate prime land to people can pay.
Precious land was being thrown away for a pittance. The present Government has rightly reversed the decision by cancelling the lease.
