Coldest night in H.P.; mercury below freezing point at most parts of the state

Himachal Pradesh witnessed coldest night as mercury was below freezing point in most parts of the state, disrupting power supply in many parts of the state, but sunshine gave little respite in the day.

The Mercury further rolled down in the state as Keylong was coldest in Lahaul & Spiti at minus 10.4 degrees, Kalpa in Kinnuar minus 5 degrees, Solan minus 3.5 degrees, Manali minus 3 degrees, Bhuntar in Kullu district minus 1 degrees, Sundernagar in Mandi district minus 0.6 degrees, Shimla 0.9 degrees, Mandi 1.4 degrees, Una 2.4 degrees, Nahan in Sirmour district 3 degrees and Dharamshala in Kangra district 4 degrees.

The water supply was also affected in Shimla and other towns in the state as the water pipes were freezing. People have to toil hard as supply of water could not resume till afternoon. The life is like hell in the tribal towns like Keylong, Kaza, Kalpa, Chitkul, Pangi and Bharmour where the supply of water is almost unavailable due to frequent logging water pipes in the cold. After formation of thick layer of frost on the road, it added to the woes of people in the state. The flowing water drains in the town turning into icicles in the extreme cold. The people remained struck to fire places in the wee hours to save them from extreme cold in the state. The working people and businessmen have to bear the cold wave however desert look was prevailing in the commercial establishment and crowded places as people were not coming out of their home.

The Met office forecast that there is no possibility of rain or snow in the state in next 24 hours.
