Widespread insistent rain in Himachal; affects apple picking

    The widespread insistent rainfall during the last 24 hours disrupted the normal life in this hill state and the apple harvesting in the higher areas of Shimla district affected as apple picking affected in some parts of the State. In Mandi district, Gohar got 102 mm rainfall, Dalhousie in Chamba 82 mm, Palampur in Kangra and Shimla 66 mm, Pachhad of Sirmaur 65 mm, Renuka 63 mm, Kahu in Hamirpur 62 mm, Bangana in Una 53 mm, Shimla 66 Mehre in Kangra 49 mm and Dharampur in Mandi 46 mm respectively.

     

    In Bilaspur Naina Devi had 42 mm, Berthin 58 mm, Baldwara of Mandi 39 mm, Solan and Kandaghat 35 mm each, Arki and Sangrah in Sirmaur 32 mm each, Amb in Una & Manali in Kullu 31 mm each, tourist resort Kasauli in Solan, Jubbarhatti in Shimla & Jogindernagar in Mandi 29 mm each, Jhandutta in Bialslpur, Bhoranj in Hamirpur & Saloni in Chamba 28 mm each and Pandoh in Mandi 25 mm, Sundernagar 23 mm and Dharamshala in Kangra 22 mm, Shapur 17 mm and Kalpa 19 mm, Mandi 14 mm respectively.

     

    All parts of the Hamirpur district were lashed by heavy rains today and last night. The rain has brought down the temperature and people have started feeling the pinch of the cold. Apple harvesting in the higher areas of Shimla was in last legs before the Dussehra hampered due to continuing rainfall in the areas affecting the picking in the orchards. Many roads which were restored for vehicular traffic were also partly damaged after becoming muddy and slippery.

     

    Shimla town was raining since last 24 hours as the light drizzling continued since overnight. The most parts of the State were covered by the dark clouds and dense fogs are also visible in some areas. Movement of commuters is very low in the many tourist resorts. The Met Office forecast rain at few places in the mid and foothills and rain and snowfall at few parts of high reaches in the next 24 hours.
