Shimla school boy becomes youngest Indian international rider

12th standard Shimla school boy Akshit Gaur scripted history after qualifying for an International Mountain Biking event as the youngest Indian Rider. 17 year old Akshit becomes the youngest rider as he would join Cross Country Marathon style cycling event – rumble in the jungle in Sri lanka.

 

President of Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA), Mohit Sood told Himvani that Akshit is not only as an Indian in race however he would be the youngest international rider to vouching for a four leg race event in Sri Lanka to track into the 300 km during the four days.

 

Mr. Sood said that a really big challenge of this event would be scaling of uphill climbs of about 8000 m. Akshit would ride across the mountain ranges and tea gardens of Sri Lanka making the race a special occasion for sport lovers in India. Alumni of St Edwards School Shimla, Akshit Gaur would compete with some top international ace riders like – Cory Wallace (Canada) – 3 time Canadian champion, Yuki Ikeda (Japan), Ajay Pandit Chettri (Nepal). Before joining the event he was train him in the foothills of Himalayas around Shimla and Narkanda. He spends around two to four hours on the bike everyday and his weekly training exceed 25 hours.

 

Riding in the high altitude Himalayan ranges offer him a great stamina making him toughest challengers among the world excellent riders. He had recently took part as an contender of  Hero Action Team riding on his his flagship UT ETX Bike – a full carbon bike weighing only 10 kgs. He made his debut in HASTPA School programs in 2014 and has since then progressed into a top mountain biker , finishing as the winner in various races like Hero MTB Shimla. He has won mountain biking Nainital in the student category as adjudged 3rd among many other tough contestants.
