Shimla Administration invokes provision of Epidemic Disease Act 1897

With spurts of the jaundice cases and other waterborne diseases in Shimla town, the District Administration have invoked provisions of Epidemic Disease Act 1897 to check further spreading of the epidemic.

Issuing notification in this regard Deputy Commissioner Shimla Mr. Dinesh Malhotra said that it has banned the public sale of Momos and Golgappa besides eatery and restaurants have to abide by advisory issued by the administration forth with.

We had convened a meeting of Shimla Vyapar Mandal, vendors and other stakeholders to invoke the restriction under the aforesaid act.

The restriction imposed by the Municipal Corporation will be effective till next order to stop the outbreak of jaundice and further increasing of its infections among the others. District administration has cautioned the eatery, hotel and restaurant owners to not offer un-boiled water to their costumers.

Initiating a new move to provide a free supply of drinking water to the people infected with the outbreak, it has installed a pure water ATM at jaundice prone area at Vikasnagar.

All the public water sources like Banwari and free flowing water have been sealed to stop the use of contaminated water by the public. Extra water taps to be installed in the affected areas.

Deputy Commissioner also urged the public that they should immediately properly wash their water storage tank. A strict order has been issued to IPH department to take test sample of water supplied to people and maintain cleanliness and chlorination of water storage tanks.

The administration has also asked the officials to launch awareness drive in the town and work in tandem to control the menace.
