Tragedy averted by sub-divisional authorities : Palampur

A major tragedy was averted on Wednesday by the prompt action taken by the sub divisional authorities of Palampur sub division, when a cloud burst was reported in Dhauladhar range near Palampur which flooded the Neugal river but the authorities managed to evacuate the tourists who were taking bath in the river before the river experienced the flash floods.

Deputy Commissioner Kangra C.Paulrasu said that following a cloud burst in Dhauladhar mountain range, some officials of a power project in locality informed Bhupinder Attari, SDM Palampur that huge quantity of water was moving towards Negual river. He said that SDM Attari swiftly acted and informed the police and reached the Neugal river and evacuated the tourists, who were taking bath in the river, to the safer places before Negual river experienced flash floods.

DC said that there was no loss of life or property due to the cloud burst.

Meanwhile, Kangra valley was lashed by rain on Wednesday afternoon, dropping down the temperature and providing relief from the scorching heat which the valley was experiencing during the current summer season.

The day was as usual sunny, hot and humid but at 1:00 PM the sky was overcast with dark clouds followed by high velocity winds. It was at 1:15 PM that it rained providing relief to the residents from humidity and heat. The temperature dropped and people enjoyed the showers because of the relief got from the scorching heat.

Reports of rains were received from Dharamshala, Gaggal, Palampur, Maranda, Nagrota Bagwan, Dehra, Jawalamukhi and Shahpur.
