Private transporters stage protest in Shimla

All Himachal Vehicle Joint Action Committee (AHVJAC) yesterday lodged protest outside Directorate of Road Transport Officer (RTO) Shimla, seeking withdrawal of hike in passenger and good tax.

About 60 taxi and other vehicle operators lodged protest outside RTO presided by AHVJAC president Chet Ram Sharma. Mr. Sharma said that they handed over memorandum to the Director Transport seeking immediate withdrawal of hike in transport and passenger tax on all commercial vehicles.

Memorandum said that if government would not withdraw the hike in passengers tax they would start chain protest after January 15 to press the demand. Protesting transporter also warned that they would go on complete strike of commercial vehicle after January 20, if state government would remain fail to reduce the taxes.

The agitating operators alleged that state government has proposed to hike the passenger tax from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 15000 of taxi and Rs. 5000 to Rs. 25000 on truck.
