Era & Mohravag watershed program furthers ‘green revolution’

Green revolution found its latest center of activity, in Era and Mohravag villages of Gram Panchayat Mudhu of Theog subdivision in Shimla district.

Both the villages were covered under Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP), which has helped the villagers by providing various developmental works specifically the irrigation facility.

Project Director of IWMP, Mr. S.P. Bhardwaj informed that two common tanks of about 20000 and 24000 liters capacities were built under the program in the villages.

Water tanks have proved boon to 18 households of these villages as it had brought major chunk of arable land under the irrigation facility.

Local resident, Kewal Ram said that it did not only help them to bring rain-fed lands under irrigation but it had overcome their drinking water shortage as water stored under this scheme is good for drinking.

Gram Panchayat President Rajinder Verma said that the project has been built with estimated cost of Rs. 3 lakh and more irrigation units would likely to come up in rest of the villages under this Panchayat soon.

With greenery in their fields it brings cheers on the faces of farmers as they were being benefited with this project designed by the state government to harvest rain water, improve the quality of soil, land conservation and promoting afforestation etc.
