As many as 85000 youths have been targeted to impart the benefit of skill development allowance who have attained age of 18 to 35 years this year in the state.

This was stated by Industry minister, Mukesh Agnihotri who was responding to a query in the assembly today.

He said that it is a flagship scheme of this government as it had announced to pay Rs 1000 per month to unemployed in its pre poll manifesto. State government had received Rs.100 crores from the centre. Moreover it would get Rs.500 crores to bring 5 lakhs youths under the scheme started on Aug 15, 2013.

Minister said that government has relaxed the norms to make this scheme more flexible so that maximum eligible persons could be brought under its ambit. He said that the government could not be able to absolutely extend this scheme to all 9,02,851 unemployed youths registered in the state. Youth can register them in employment centre even at the age group of 14 years.

He said that government would not constitute skill development authority as department is competent enough to run the scheme efficiently. The Government has reduced the age limit of the beneficiaries by bringing all youths between age group of 18 to 35 years under its ambit which was earlier announced 25 to 35 years.

Jai Ram Thakur (Seeraj-BJP) alleged that Congress had allured the youths on the name of employment allowance during the election as so far it could extend benefit to just 41 youths. He said that the progress of the scheme shows that government was not serious to extend the benefit to the eligible.

Suresh Bhardwaj (Shimla-BJP) wanted to know that government would impart benefit under this scheme between age group of 18 to 35years, however there are number of unemployed youths registered under the employment centre between age group of 35 to 45 years.

I.D.Dhiman (Bhoranj-BJP) alleged that scheme did not get requisite response from the youths as not even a single youth is brought under it in district Chamba, Hamirpur, Kinnuar and Lahaul and Spiti. He said that only one youth was registered under it in Bilaspur, Kangra, Shimla and Solan district.
