Upper reaches of H.P. snowing after overcast

Upper reaches of Lahaul & Spiti district were snowing since this afternoon after overcast in the state, following prevailing of westerly winds in the region for last 24 hours, the met office said.

Report arriving from Keylong, headquaters of Lahaul & Spiti said that high reaches like Lady of Keylong, Seven Sister’s hills and Goshal hills were snowing. The gateway to Lahaul & Spiti district 13050 high Rohtang Pass was open for light vehicles and got mild spell of snowfall. After snowfall and extreme cold weather in some parts of the district, water supply was reportedly disrupted as water froze into ice, blocking the pipe lines in Mayarh, Spiti and Darcha valley.

Cold wave blowing in the state affected life as thick clouds were hovering over the region since early morning but it turned partly cloudy and sunny in the afternoon. There is no report of snowfall in Kullu, Kangra, Chamba, Shimla and Kinnuar district so far.

Temperature improved in the state last night as Keylong was low at minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, which was an increase of 0.8 degrees from yesterday, Kalpa in Kinnuar and Manali were 2 degrees each. Bhuntar in Kullu district and Sundernagar in Mandi district, 3 degrees each, Solan and Mandi 4 degrees each, Una and Dharamshala in Kangra district 8 degrees each, Palampur 9 degrees and Nahan 10 degrees.

The met office forecast rain or snow on high reaches and mainly dry weather in the rest of the state.
