The state government has toughened its stand against  the Indian Army after verbal dual over the strategic Annadale ground. The revenue court of Divisional  Commissioner (Shimla) has  fixed 28th June as the next date of hearing seeking a reply from the Indian Army in this case.

The matter was brought before this court here about six months back as the state filed this case through Deputy Commissioner Shimla, seeking possession from the Indian Army citing the reason that the lease agreement had been lapsed in 1982 about  121 bigha ground acquired by Indian Army during the second world war.

Former Chief Ministers of state including the incumbent Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had been raising the issue before the center several times to take back the land from the Indian Army.

HPCA led by Mr. Dhumal’s elder son, Anurag Thakur, who is also the president of Bharatiya Janta Party Yuva Morcha and Lok Sabha MP from Hamirpur, had started a signature campaign to vacate this green patch of land to construct cricket stadium. However, political outfits like Congress and CPI(M) have raised questions over the eagerness of state government and HPCA to press this issue for return of the ground for construction of a stadium.
