Nadda elected unopposed for Rajya Sabha from Himachal

The BJP general secretary Jagat Prakesh Nadda was today elected unopposed for Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh here today.

The Secretary Vidhan Sabha Govardhan Singh, who was Returning Officer for the poll, declared him elected for Rajya Sabha seat after expiry of last date of withdrawal. Earlier, Nadda, a sitting MLA from Bilaspur gave his farewell speech and participated in budget discussion.

Elected to Vidhan Sabha for the first time in 1993, Nadda retained his seat in 1998 and was again elected in December 2007. He held the post of  Health Minister in Dhumal Ministry from 1998 to 2003 and was again elected as Forest Minister in January 2008.

He resigned as forest Minister in April 2010 after he was appointed general secretary in the team of BJP president Nitin Gadkiri.
Fifty-one year old Nadda was an ABVP Activist and elected president of Himachal University Student Central Association and also remained all India president of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
