Shimla (July 7): All milk venders in Shimla town have deicided to stop the sale of packaged pasteurized milk form tomorrow onwards (Friday) for three days.

Milk Suppliers Association president Puran Chand told HimVani that they
had been demanding a hike in commission from milk companies but their demand had not been met. “No packaged milk and dairy products coming from neighbouring Punjab will be supplied to any shop or hotel or commercial establishment for
three days. A decision in this regard was taken after the companies
refused to hike commission,” he lamented.

The suppliers are demanding hike in commission in the sale per pack of
500 ml pouches from 25 paise to Re 1. In May the vendors also stalled milk
supply in the town for two days in support of the same demand. The town daily requires 50,000 litres of milk and mainly gets the supply from Punjab’s milk cooperative Milkfed. Sources in the milk trade said Milkfed is daily supplying 14,500 litres of milk to Shimla.

The other prominent companies are Haryana milk cooperative
Vita, Reliance and Punjab-based Milk Time and Super. S.K. Tuteja,
Milkfed’s regional sales manager in its Mohali plant in Punjab, told HimVani that the company is planning to hike the commission next month when a new contract would be signed with Shimla’s main distributors. “Certain private companies are trying to capture the market by offering more discounts, which are not sustainable in the long run” he added.
