Administration conducts public hearing into 775mw SJVNL Luhri project

Shimla: District Administration Shimla today conducted public hearing into Rs 4598 Crore proposed 775MW Satluj Jal Vidhut Nigam Limited project at Luhri in which 500 people took part.

ADM Shimla Mann Singh presided the hearing while SDM Rampur Rana Pritpal Singh and Managing Director of Luhri Project of SJVN S.K.Sharma was present on this occasion. Local people called the hearing a step taken in hurry and lack of proper pre-publicity urged to re-conduct it again. They alleged that incomplete Environment Impact Assessment Report (EIA) was presented during the hearing.

Giving detail of this project, S.K.Sharma said that run-of-river project would come up on Satluj Basin and 400 mw Rampur project of SJVNL is likely to generate power worth Rs 800 crore per annually. It would have diversion dam having gravity wall of 86 meters height at Nithar and dam would be stretched 6.8 kiolmeter in length from the dam wall. The project would be spanned in 3600 bigha land of Kullu, Shimla and Mandi district, which would displace 37 families and effective land loser of 2337 households. It is being made on the basis of ‘twin headrace tunnel’ having diameter of 9 meters each and total length of 38.14 km each beginning from dam site at Nirath to power station site Moraola, 10 km above Tatapani in Suni area of Shimla district.
