India post offers special drive to sell gold coin

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Circle General Postmaster  Shimla S.C. Jarodia informed Himvani that India Post was selling gold coins in association with World Gold Council and Reliance Money infrastructure Limited since May 22, 2010 in HP circle.

Gold coins are being sold through selected post offices in the state namely Shimla GPO, Kasumpti Sub Post office, Solan, Mandi, Kullu, Dharmshala, Kangra, Dehra and Una head post offices. India Post retails 24 carat Swiss gold coins of 99.99 percent purity in the denomination of 1 gram, 8 gm and 20 gm, keeping in mind the auspicious festival of Akshays Tritiya. India Post has recently introduced new denominations of 10 and 50 gm in attractive temper proof packaging.

A special festival campaign has been launched from April 4, 2011 to June 30, 2011 where in any customer who buys 10 gm of gold coins gets 0.5 gm gold coins totally free. For government employees, there is a scheme of 6 percent discount on that day’s retail price. India Post expects that during the campaign period the sale of gold coins would increase manifold in Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle, he added.
