Shimla (Apr 23): Shimla administration has ‘cautioned’ a local deity not to disobey local laws, after a troupe of devotee carrying palanquin of deity Mahunag brought a procession inside the sealed area of the state capital on Saturday, allegedly without seeking proper permission from the authorities.

SP Shimla Sonal Agnihotri told HimVani that as the procession of devotees carrying palanquin of Mahunag entered the CTO to Mall sealed road, it was intercepted by a police party. The followers were found without proper papers, following which the administration warned them that “action would be initiated against the deity for defying rules”.

He said that the agitated devotees who were determined to proceed with the procession with incomplete permission entered the sealed area deifying orders. But the matter was later resolved after counseling the followers about the norms.

However, the administration did not issue any challen against the deity or the followers.
It is worthwhile to mention here that every days a number of local deities are seen being carried in processions through the crowded Mall road and Ridge. Recently, a local court also issued notices against goddess Chumunda Devi for bringing out a procession and creating
problems for the commuters, on which the deity’s followers also lodged a protest outside
the court complex. Latter the matter was disposed off after issuing warning to its followers.
