Nation's first Hydro Engineering College in HP

Shimla: Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde would visit Himachal Pradesh to lay foundation stone of Hydro-Engineering College being opened as a joint venture of National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL) at Bilaspur.

According to a government communiqué released here, the state had succeeded to get first such Hydro Engineering College in country in joint public sector after getting its approval from Union Power Ministry to cater to the needs of qualified professionals in various hydro electric projects.  State is likely to propose five courses in hydro engineering in the college with intake capacity of about 300 students in all. Team of high professionals has been constituted to design the curriculum and study courses for this college.

Number of hydro electric projects is under execution in the state in public, private and joint venture to exploit entire identified hydro electric potential of state at the earliest. College products would not only meet the power requirements of the Northern states of the country, but would also generate employment and self employment to local youth.
