Folk-media campaign on 'Beti Hai Anmol'

Shimla (Feb 2): A state-wide folk media campaign on the theme of ‘Beti Hai Anmol’ has been started from today by State National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in collaboration with Department of Information and Public Relations in 44 Gram Sabhas. The campaign is being organised to bring about awareness regarding female foeticide in rural areas.

Rakesh Kanwar, Mission Director, State National Rural Health Mission, said that 300 artists from 22 cultural troupes had been trained by the Information and Public Relations Department to sensitise people about skewed sex ratio in 44 Development Blocks through street plays, folk plays, folk songs.

Kanwar said that in the first phase, 440 folk media programme would be organised in 44 Development Blocks of Kangra, Una, Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Mandi districts. He said that these programmes would be continued in a phased manner throughout the year and a special programme would be organised on the occasion of state-level Women’s Day function i.e. 8th March, 2011.
