Bangalore: HP Tourism & Civil Aviation Director Arun Sharma today claimed that state is targeting to achieve 15 percent contribution from tourism to state GDP by 2016. While speaking after launch of the road show to woo tourists from Karnataka here, he informed that state tourism contributed only 8 per cent to the GDP which is expected to double in coming 7 years. He disclosed that last year as many as 1.14 Crore tourists from India and abroad visited the ‘land of snow’ state. He said the Union Tourism Ministry had recently given green signal for introduction of exclusive Tourist Circuit. HPTDC MD Vineet Kumar said the corporation was aiming at popularising tourist spots other than Shimla, Kulu and Manali since it would be a real feast for nature lovers and adventurers.

  1. in the  enthusiastic frenzy to woo tourism, are we not digging the grave yard of our unique cultural sense? it is regrettable that  the tourism that is  fast becoming an agent of income for the people is also set to ruin it. most of the tourism we have seen around is irresponsible with no sense for the cultural ethos of the locals and/ or sensitivity towards the environment. this has led to a reaction on the part of the locals- a sort of dry economic dependence between  the people of the area and the tourism. instead of sponsoring tourism blindly and translating it into economic figures, it would be better if we  generate an educative responsible tourism. tourism is not all about hulla bol or  enjoyment in gayness forme. it is a learning experience and respecting all that the local culture has how much peculiar it may seem to me from my perspective
