Heavy polling in Himachal despite cold wave

Shimla (Jan 1): The third phase of Panchayat Raj polling currently in progress in about 1,025 gram panchayats of Himachal Pradesh reported heavy turnout despite sever cold conditions.

The polling began at 7 am and around 10 per cent polling was witnessed in first two hours. In Shimla district, where mercury was below freezing point this morning, 9 per cent polling was witnessed, where snowbound Chopal registered 7 per cent turnout. Bilaspur and Sirmaur district reported 14 per cent each, Una and Kangra 9 per cent and Solan 22 per cent and Hamirpur 12 per cent.

The polling would end 3 pm and result will be declared by late evening, however counting for the Zila Perishad and Block Samit members will be held on January 4.

Polling for 14 gram panchayat of Pooh and Kalpa sub-division have been postponed for January 5 due to heavy snowfall in Kinnaur district.
