Shimla (Nov 22): Himachal Pradesh state unit of CPI(Marxist) has reiterated its demand of opening ‘Jan Aushidhi’ shops at the earliest and has asked the government to explain the delay in opening these shops in hospitals across the state.

The party has stated that though interviews for the pharmacists for these stores were held in August 2010′, no appointment has been done so far. “It is learnt that the BJP government through the Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) wants to outsource the Jan Aushidhi stores, thereby defeating the very purpose of selling generic medicines through these stores,” a release said.

There are charges that several agencies and individuals, including some of the top BJP leaders and ministers, are in the race to bag these stores. The CPIM has stated, the BJP government is strongly wedded to the neo-liberal policies that prohibits the state from spending on social welfare schemes and measures. Further, the party in power has opened the floodgates for privatisation of health services under the garb of public-private partnership, which ipso facto is a step towards privatising the state health services.

The CPIM has demanded immediate opening of these Jan Aushadhi stores so that the patients can get some reprieve from the incessantly rising health costs.
