Shimla (Oct 18): Himachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor Sunil Kumar Gupta has constituted a three-member committee to look into the aspects of printing, preparation and delivery of certificates, degrees, mark-sheets by the examination branch.

This step has been taken on complaint submitted by the BA III branch of the examination wing of the university regarding receiving of fake certificate recently. The committee, headed by Dean of Studies CL Chandan, and members Suresh Kumar director, Institute of Management Studies (IMS) and OP Chauhan from Department of Laws, would submit the enquiry report within fifteen days.

The Controller of Examinations today submitted the preliminary enquiry report in which he has indicated that the certificate submitted by one Parvati Devi is fake on account of security features. The Vice-Chancellor has said that the University has handed over this fake certificate along with other relevant records to the state CID for carrying out a thorough probe into the matter so that necessary action could be taken. He said that the CID would inquire into the entire matter and do the needful as done in case of admission to B.Ed. course last year.

It is pertinent to mention here that the computer branch of the examination wing in the University detected the fake certificate of BA 2nd year submitted by Parvati Devi for declaration of her BA 3rd year result and brought the matter to the notice of authorities as neither the paper nor the other codes were similar to that which are being used by the University. Moreover, the result shown in the fake certificate is contrary to as contained in the original certificate issued by the university as well as in the records.

The Vice-Chancellor has called upon all sections of the university to co-operate in the inquiry being conducted by the committee constituted and the state CID. He has requested student organisations to avoid defaming the university and office of the Vice-Chancellor. Gupta has made it clear that he has not used any emergency powers to help any particular student as being alleged in the media. He said all decisions are made by the executive council and are routed through appropriate bodies.
