Shimla: Following the worst ever man-made tragedy in the history of Himachal Pradesh at Naina Devi temple last year, the shroud of death once again veiled the ravine Shivalik foothills as at least 24 pilgrims were killed and around 70 injured when the truck they were returning in after a pilgrimage to the shrine, overturned on the Punjab-Himachal border this morning.

In August last year, a human stampede at the Naina Devi had led to the death of 162 people. Most of the victims are said to be residents of Ludhiana district in Punjab. The condition of around 10 more people is said to be critical and have been referred to PGI in Chandigarh.

It may be mentioned that during Navratras, large number of pilgrims flock temples in Himachal, most of them traveling in trucks, that otherwise are not authorised to carry passengers.
