Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh state unit of Students Federation of India (SFI) has welcomed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the Himachal Pradesh High Court judgment of June 2008, which acquitted the SFI leadership of all charges impleading against them by ABVP in the 1995 Dadawalia murder case, terming it as a slap on the face of the entire saffron brigade.

Vijander Mehra, SFI in charge of state, said in a statement here today that the Supreme Court on September 13 dismissed the appeal of the HP government challenging the June 20, 2008 judgment delivered by the high court, in which the court had declared that seven SFI leaders were innocent and were wrongly booked for the offences of murder and attempt to murder, following an FIR by the ABVP on the campus of Himachal Pradesh University on May 20, 1995.

The SFI has stated, the ABVP, with the direct support of its parent political party, the BJP, and with the tacit support of the then Congress government in the state, foisted a false case on the state SFI leadership and followed it up with a venomous campaign against the organization.

“The alleged murder charge against SFI leaders – rejected by all the courts – the trial court, high court and the Supreme Court – proves that the stand has been vindicated. SFI had consistently maintained that for an accident caused by police negligence, students cannot be booked for murder, simply because they belonged to an organization, which had a strong hold on the university campus,” he said.
