Kalam lauds Himachal’s efforts in environment protection

Shimla: Former president APJ Abdul Kalam today appriciated Himachal Pradesh government’s efforts in promoting environment conservation. An official releasee stated that Kalam rang up Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal to convey that HP has shown the way to rest of the country in environment protection by making concerted efforts in participation of the people. The Bharat Ratna awardee said he was concerned about the degradation of environment due to global warming, resulting into climate change, and was constantly monitoring the changes taking place the world over.

He said HP has done a commendable job by completely banning green felling, use of plastic-carry bags, constitution of eco-battalions, eco-clubs in educational institutions and launching special drives to grow herbal and other species of plants which could help in increasing green cover of state. Kalam appreciated Himachal for being a pioneer in the carbon neutrality crusade in the country.
