ABVP strike across Himachal colleges

Shimla: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) forced Colleges across Himachal Pradesh to shut down protesting against lathicharge on its activists in Mandi on Saturday.

ABVP activists had accused Mandi deputy commissioner Onkar Sharma of misbehaving with a member of ABVP on October 11 and had been demanding action against him since then. On Saturday, ABVP activists were caned by police when they staged a protest in Mandi at a function where Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was also present.
ABVP’s national secretary Umesh Dutt said the education shutdown was being observed in over 150 private and government colleges across the state.
