Himachal to give excess power to other states

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has requested the central government to allocate its share of 632.4 MW power directly to other states to meet power shortage during the summer season.

Speaking at the chief ministers’ conference on power sector in New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh Power Minister, Vidya Stokes, said the Union Ministry of Power had sanctioned Rs 322.78 crore for strengthening and upgradation of sub-transmission and distribution systems under the APDRP scheme in the state, adding that 80% of the physical work had already been achieved within the sanctioned scheme cost.

Strokes said all district and sessions court in the state had been designated as special courts for speedy trial of electricity theft cases. The minister added that all-out efforts were being made to reduce transmission and distribution losses to 15% by the end of the Eleventh Plan. The Himachal Pradesh government has already reduced transmission and distribution losses by 7.63% during the last four years, she claimed.
