2-day theatre festival at Kangra

Kangra: There are good days ahead for the revival of theatre in Himachal Pradesh. The Kangra Cultural Society, a voluntary organisation, is holding a two-day theatre festival at Government Polytechnic, Kangra on April 12 and 13. The event is being sponsored by the North Zone Culture Centre, Patiala, and will feature performances by three professional drama groups from Lucknow, Amritsar and Mandi.

Two plays will be staged on the opening day of the festival, the first play, Princess Nagfani verses Prem Journey is based on a satire by Harishankar Parsai and will be performed by Himachal Culture Research Forum and Theatre Academy of Satohal near Mandi. The play has been directed by Uttpal Jha. The second performance Saiyan Bhaye Kotwal will be staged by Manch-Rangmanch, a theatre group of Amritsar. It is an adaptation of a Marathi play in Hindi by Keval Dhaliwal, originally written in Marathi by Vasant Sabneez.The second day of the festival will see staging of full length play by Yayawar, a theatre group from Luknow. Titled Saleem Shervani ki Shaadi, the play is based on a novel of famous French writer George Fedio and has been directed by Jitendera Mittal. A seminar on the present scenario of theatre in the country and its possibilities will also be organised at Bachat Bhawan, Dharamsala on April 13.
