Weather takes a heavy toll in Mandi District of Himachal

    Mandi. (Aug 16): Incessant heavy rain which continued for over last fifteen hours in Mandi region has taken toll of three lives and twenty six heads of cattle. Besides this 6 persons have been injured and 64 houses and 9 cowsheds have been damaged in the district, according to information received from Deputy Commissioner this evening.

    Two persons were killed in Gohar Valley while one died in Sarkaghat in floods caused by heavy rains. National Highways 20 and 21 linking Manali with Chandigarh and Pathankot have been breached at a number of points due to heavy landslides.

    The NH authorities are clearing the debris on a war-footing by pressing into service heavy machines including JCBs at vulnerable points.

    Beas and its tributaries flowing through the state are in spate. People living on the banks of Beas have been advised to go to safer places.
