Dharamshala (Aug 13): Rail traffic on the Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow gauge line has been suspended after torrential rain washed away one pillar of more than 80-year- old railway bridge on Chakki river, 90 kms from here, late last night.

The Chakki river was flooded after torrential rain and flood water washed away pillar number 4 on the Punjab side, collapsing one span of the railway bridge. The bridge has 24 pillars.

Shafi Mohamad, SHO, GRPS Kangra, said that on the rest of the railway track between Kandwal near Chakki and Jogindernagar, railway traffic has been suspended today following land slides which occurred between Baijnath and Palampur. He said that landslides have been reported between Chakki bridge and Dalhousie crossing leaving railway traffic suspended on that span too.

Senior railway authorities from Delhi were reaching Chakki to inspect the damaged railway bridge and to chalk out a strategy to reconstruct the damaged part of the bridge.
