Hamirpur: The 13th match of the NITH Premier League (NPL) played at NIT Hamirpur (Himachal) came as a shock for Voracious Maniacs as The Heinous Harriers came back from 0-2 to win the game 3-2. Inspired by a superb play by Thongam Amarjit, the Harriers scored 3 goals in the last 15 minutes to keep their winning run going.
The Maniacs were in control for most part of the match and were leading 1-0 till half time, courtesy of a goal from Vivek Chauhan. They extended their lead to 2-0 with a stunning second half goal by Sunil. Everyone thought the match was put beyond the reach of the Harriers and their unbeaten record would come to an end. But they once again showed that the match was not over until the final whistle blows. Harriers’ captain Rajat Bhakri, supported talented striker Thongam Amarjit, scored two goals within 10 minutes to equalize the scores in the dying minutes of the match. Before the devastated Maniacs could recover from the shock, the Harriers gave the final blow by scoring the winner through Rahul Gupta in the last few moments of the match and in the process, he became the leading scorer of the league with three goals.
The loss meant that the Maniacs would continue to stay at the bottom of the table for a little longer and it also kept the Harriers far from any other team’s reach with 20 points. The Hornets are in second place with 12 points. The next match will be between Titans and Hornets on March 10.
